Perplexity
Search that answers, and shows its work.
A normal search hands you ten links and a homework assignment. Perplexity hands you an answer, then footnotes it. You ask a question, it pulls from a handful of sources, and every claim links back to where it came from, so checking the work takes seconds rather than a fresh round of searching.
Speed is what makes it stick. Answers land quickly, follow-ups keep context, and Pro Search widens the net when a question deserves more digging. It is not infallible, on obscure or breaking topics it will still state something confidently wrong, so you keep one eye on the citations for anything that counts.
At free it already replaces a lot of casual searching. Pro is worth it if research is a daily part of your work and you want the stronger models. For most knowledge work, it earns its place.
What we liked
- Answers come with inline citations you can actually check
- Fast, and follow-up questions keep the thread of context
- Pro Search digs through more sources before answering
- Genuinely cuts down the open-tab pileup
What we did not
- Still hallucinates on very niche or very recent topics
- Source quality varies, so you verify anything that matters
- The best models sit behind the Pro paywall
